1st Customer Review : Great microwave for the price
I bought the model elsewhere, but I still love it. My old microwave was showing its age (14 years). This unit has a few newer features, and the one I like most are the 1 - 6 (minute cooking) keys. The defrost & cooking cycles take the high end of time indicated. The one thing dislike the most the hum on the unit. It is much louder than the one on my previous unit. Also, just a peeve, the light inside the unit stays on when the door is open (my old unit's light only was on during operation).

1st Customer Review : Great Microwave albeit expensive
I have been using this microwave for more than 18 months.

Absolutely no complaints either on the pre-defined programs or regular use. I use the pre-defined programs mostly for cooking rice, popcorn and vegetables. My previous Panasonic microwave had inconsistent results for these - either rice came out too dry, or popcorn over or underdone. This one gives consistently good results.

Regular heating or de-freezing works like other microwaves, albeit a bit faster despite having same power settings.

If one is remodelling the kitchen and going for high-end appliances like Viking, I would recommend getting this microwave as part of the whole set. On its own the expense may not justify the purchase despite the high quality.

I feel like a Microwave connoisseur, I have been through so many. Single guy here, I have a back up microwave for when one goes out if that tells you anything. I use a microwave 99% of the time so I feel qualified to judge a microwave. :") This one is the top of the Microwave chain, it can take a lot of use, it's EASY to use, responsive and is attractive in the kitchen. It's HUGE and will hold anything, so make sure you want a very large Microwave before purchasing. I wouldn't change a thing on this microwave! Thanks for perfecting the microwave Panasonic!

2nd Customer Review : Dead On Arrival Sensor -- Not acceptable resolution
** I wrote an initial version of this review for J&R, the place where I bought the microwave oven from, but the review never got published by them, and seems to be deleted now. **

With extra large capacity, 1250 Watts power, inverter technology, sensor cooking, and optional built-in trim, this is the most feature rich microwave is its class of non-convection microwave ovens.

The difference with the older line (NN-SD997S) is that the dial is electrostatic and is touch controlled similar to an ipod.

My microwave oven, however, arrived with a defective sensor. All my attempts to use its sensor cook or sensor reheat features failed. I called Panasonic and they asked me to take the microwave oven to one of their authorized service centers, closest one 30 minutes from m -- really inconvenient for a Dead-on-Arrival item. I expected Panasonic them to send me a new unit, and arrange for taking this back without any charges to me, or at least arrange shipments...
3rd Customer Review : Great oven so far...
I've just started using this oven and really like it. The "inverter" technology was the main reason I chose Panasonic since they are the only ones that provide it. This technology really improves the end result and often does it quicker. This oven is also quieter than our previous oven.

I realize that stainless appliances are all the rage right now, but the stainless finish really leaves a lot of finger marks and smears. This model should be offered in a different finish. Also, I wish the Time Dial would work in conjunction with the Quick Minute button. For example, now, to enter 5 min and 30 sec you have to run your finger around the dial until the right time appears. It would be nice if you could press the Quick Minute button 5 times and then spin the dial until another 30 seconds is added, but that doesn't seem to work.

Overall I really like the oven and would recommend it to others.

1st Customer Review : Cooks consistently
There are a lot of differences among microwave ovens these days. There are ranges of features, ways to program them, as well as preprogrammed cooking cycles for everything from making popcorn to softening ice cream. But the true test of a good microwave oven is how well it cooks. Some foods are more difficult than others. And having flexible programming cycles is what makes today's microwave ovens so much different from early ones where the only option was cook time.

Virtually all home microwave ovens have a popcorn button these days, and surprisingly not all of them work as well as they should, but if you merely want a microwave oven to make popcorn or heat a frozen burrito for the amount of time mentioned on the package, I can recommend microwave ovens for less money. If you've read my reviews of other microwave ovens, you know that. But that doesn't mean this model falls short when it comes to those tasks. Its strength though is that it does much more.

2nd Customer Review : INTERIOR ABSOLUTE BEAR TO CLEAN and....
I uploaded pictures of the interior so you could see its biggest drawback.

1. When I press start it sounds like my old '71 Datsun 510 starting up. Like a tin can. If I put my hand on the right hand side it stops vibrating. Update: 1/20/13 it no longer does that. Why? I couldn't guess.

2. It takes 3 times longer to heat anything with this MW than my nine y/o old (now dead) Kenmore.

3. INTERIOR ABSOLUTE BEAR TO CLEAN Not a smooth surface in it! Depressions on all four sides and lots of open grill work (2 sides and back), 3 tabs sticking out of the back ceiling grill work just waiting to catch onto your sponge . Plus all seams, but 2 bottom sides, are OPEN seams! Waiting for food/water to drip into them.

4. Feet do not stop it from skidding around on wood.
5 Beep is real loud and sounds 5 times, continuing even after you open the door.
6. No pre-programmed quick defrost, like old micro. Took 10mins to defrost what took <2mins in...
3rd Customer Review : Does the Trick Nicely
This microwave replaces a trusty high-end Panasonic for one major reason: after moving to a new house we realized how much smaller the new kitchen is, and the 2.2 cu ft Panasonic was a little too big. Of course, it turned out that for the measly 16% reduction in counter space footprint (which ended up being a negligible 2 inches in width and 1.5 inches in depth), the Amana's interior space was reduced by 33% (a reduction of 3 inches width, 1.75 inches depth, and 1 inch height).

But enough about that. The Amana is here now, and performance-wise it's the same 1200W of power, just in a smaller package.

It has a reduced feature set compared to my previous microwave, but most of that stuff I never touched anyway. I did get accustomed to the fly-by-wire electronic dial for setting time, which was much faster than the standard button pressing, so going back to the old method of time entry was a bit annoying at first. I also am not particularly a fan of the microscopic...

Easy viewing while heating if you aren't sure of the correct setting. Stainless steel looks really elegant

Ok, this is a work horse since September 2008 for Lunch and Dinner 7 days a week.

A bunch of presets. It has the rotating tray to heat evenly - set it and forget it. Very easy clean up.

Super quick to heat. Under a minute to melt cheese, 3 minutes to super heat anything out of the refrigerator.

I do not recommend, this exact unit lasted 1 year and 1 month and died.
It worked great until its untimely death. The Megatron unit is warranted for
5 years, but I have to pay labor after 1st year, and I am sure Sears will charge more than
what a new microwave would cost.

the product seems cheap but its on par with what this is supposed to be. i wouldn't say this is any special unit even though consumer reports gives it a best buy rating. upon inital inspection the door was dented in the upper left corner. the door did not align properly and when operating you could see the light escaping from inside the unit along the hinged side of the door seem. if you like microwaving yourself, you'd love it. i had to remove the door and do some door aligning on my own with a rubber mallet and a hefty pliers. i have no idea if this fell off the back of a truck or what the situation was but be warned. unit was listed as new and the seller seemed to go out of their way to mark the box as such. if it lasts 5 years i'll be thrilled. sad but that's the product china is putting out these days.

1st Customer Review : small footprint; works great; cute; excellent Abt service
Just got this yesterday. Used it several times with satisfying results.

Note: The five stars are for the oven. I find product ratings based on seller service are useless when I'm trying to decide whether to buy something. I'd like to comment that, in the case of Abt, the service was excellent. Despite the free shipping for this large, heavy box, the oven arrived satisfyingly quickly. The outer box was impeccable, and the inside was well padded. Abt's return policy is also fair.

amusing design; good for corner diagonal placement

bright interior light
quiet operation
large enough turntable for dinner plate
tall enough inside for covered casserole dish
sturdy turntable support
handy 30-second start-button timer; hope the button holds up, because I'll use it a lot
easy +/- timer increment works fast or slow depending on how long button is held

2nd Customer Review : Exactly what I wanted
After installing a new double oven to replace a single with a microwave combo I was left in need of a countertop microwave. It had to be small so as not to take up counterspace and I needed blue display lights to match all of my other appliances' light displays (things like that annoy me). Black or silver...all my appliances are stainless and my granite is black. This is perfect. Fits in the corner and easy to use. Looks like an odd little tv...which I like since I like quirky looking things that do their job. I boght several other microwaves these past few weeks- pure stainless...blck...larger...even the nostalgia retro one...all went back...this one is perfect. I don't do major cooking in a microwave and if takes a few seconds longer, well, it really does not matter as we are all in too big of a rush anyway:)
3rd Customer Review : Nice, compact, easy to use
Whirlpool's description of this microwave is spot on.

The only thing that would be nice would be a numeric keypad, but there really isn't space given the compact design.

We have oversized dinner plates, and they fit in here with very little to spare, which means this microwave is perfect for us.
