1st Customer Review : Convection Microwave Cooking OTR Unit
This is our 3rd version of this same unit (1st one sold w. house...second burned out after 11 years of continuous use! This newest of this Sharp line is very good looking, beautiful Stainless throughout & larger (inside) then previous units...it has really simplified convection & mix cooking with help of it's internal computer. This is great for all of your cooking, especially cooking for 2, we never use the regular oven except for a large turkey (this unit will hold a 10# bird.) There was a problem with one of the large bolts that holds it on the back plate..did not line up correctly...that was a pain. Also shipping by UPS or FED EX ends up with a mutilated box & I'm sure damaged units (we lucked out no damage to unit- the unit is quite heavy 84# so I'm sure the carrier just "heaves" it - so if your box is badly damaged don't even open it - send it back for a new one) they should really be shipped using another source.

2nd Customer Review : It was a bit of a disappointment
When we were remodeling our kitchen we decided to replace our Sharp countertop convection microwave with the over the range model. I really miss the old one. This new model seems to be a lot noisier than the old one. I went from 1.5 cubic feet down to 1.1 and it feels like I lost a lot more room than that. The hood light is VERY dim and the replacement bulbs (2) each cost at least $4 a piece if you can find them. Because we had to vent this into the kitchen we had to sent away to Sharp for a charcoal filter that cost $20 (filter plus shipping and handling.) We had planned to vent it to the outside but the vent didn't even come close to matching up the hole from our former range hood. The cooking turntable is white and very had to keep clean. It is only a month old and is very stained already.

I do like to have the cooking area at eye level.

I researched the price for comparable items on the web before buying and Amazon offered the best price as well as free...
3rd Customer Review : American Made Microwave w/convection -works great
I purchased this item for two reasons, 1) because this is a Union Made microwave assembled in TN (the only American made microwave I've found) and 2) It has a convection oven that can double as a 2nd oven.

The styling on this unit is very nice, sleek and not overcomplicated, it enhances the look of my kitchen.

The microwave cooking is simple, with built in functions for thawing frozen items or popping popcorn, etc. You punch a button, it asks you how many steaks you are defrosting or how much popcorn you are popping and it does the rest.

Convection cooking is new to me, but the manual and recipe booklet that come with the unit have already produced salmon steaks with a white wine/basil sauce and cooked a pizza. I've found that in the heat of the summer I can use this oven vs. my gas oven and it cooks faster and doesn't heat up the house as much. There is also a function that combines microwave and convection cooking to get meals done even faster... there are so many things...

1st Customer Review : Excellent - Exactly as Advertised
A friend of mine has a Flavorwave Oven and he loves it. He uses it daily. After seeing it in action myself on several occasions - and eating the beef, chicken and fish cooked in it - I decided to get one of my own. I searched Amazon.com and found this Secura Infrared Tabletop Turbo Oven Pro S-777MH. It looks very close to Flavorwave Oven but costs only 2/3 and with a free Extender Ring. It has a five star review, though only two reviews. I decided to give it a try.

I have made beef, chicken, pork loin, sausage rings, chicken thighs and fish in here, as well as some veggies. The meat/fish/chicken is so juicy, flavorful with no fat or oil when it comes out of the cooker the first time. Re-heated in the cooker still yields a moist piece of meat, not like what happens when reheated in a microwave or regular oven. Processed foods like pizza rolls and breaded butterfly shrimp turned out perfect in about 10 minutes.

The glass bottom cleans easily in hot soapy...

2nd Customer Review : It WORKS!
I just got this and have already cooked chicken - which comes out crispy golden brown on the outside and juicy on the inside just like it says it will, and pork bbq ribs, which I used to cook the pork until almost done, then switched over to my crock pot where I added bbq sauce and cooked slowly for 3 hours. PERFECT!

It's easier to clean than I thought it would be - it really does just rinse out with a quick swish. I got this model because I wanted the manual control knobs rather than the digital and I have no problems with them at all. It is quiet, only the timer and fan make noise and they are both really quiet.

I was most surprised at how quickly and perfectly that golden brown crust formed on the chicken and the pork. I also cooked some steak fries and they browned quickly and cooked quickly as well.

I plan to get one of these for each of my kids to use as well.
3rd Customer Review : It caught on fire!
I bought this oven in July 2010 and loved it. We use it probably 2-3 times per week, sometimes more. I had a NuWave turbo oven for 3-1/2 years prior to the Secura and the plastic cover cracked. Since it couldn't be replaced we searched for one with a glass cover. I did a lot of research and found good reviews on this oven so I got it. Last night, I put in burgers to cook and when I turned the unit on it started making funny noises. I was still standing there but by the time I could reach out to turn it off it started sparking and caught fire. By the time I reached over to unplug it I had flames and smoke(at least the glass contained the fire). I called Secura today to notify them and see if it was covered under the manufacturer's warranty and they said "nope". That is all they would say!! I'm out $100 bucks for something that didn't work for even 1 year and the company won't stand behind their product. Even though the NuWave has a plastic cover I'm going back to it. At...

Why the Breville Smart Oven?

Every Breville product begins with a simple moment of brilliance. The Breville Smart Oven began with the simple fact that different foods require different methods of heating: some, like baked goods, need to be cooked evenly; others, like meats, need to be seared on top. Most toaster ovens fail to distribute heat in a consistent way throughout their interiors, let alone change heat distribution to suit the different foods being prepared. This is how the Breville Smart Oven stands apart: whatever the food, it adjusts its heat distribution for perfect results.

Toast SettingsBake Settings
For toast, high heat from top and bottom evenly crisps the outside of toast but doesn't dry out the inside (left diagram), while for baking 1500W are distributed among four elements for gentle heat and even cooking (right diagram)
An oven that does the thinking for you

The Smart Oven is equipped with Element IQ cooking technology, which adjusts the power of the five individual quartz heating elements to cook food more evenly and quickly. This sophisticated heating system distributes heat throughout the oven when and where it is needed, to guarantee more efficient cooking. Nine different menu options allow users to choose the best setting for the food they are cooking. In addition to dynamically distributing heat to different areas, the Smart Oven can adjust the wattage of its heating elements for even more cooking flexibility. Most ovens have elements with fixed wattage that can only switch between ON and OFF, but Element IQ functions much like a dimmer on a light switch, increasing or decreasing element power with a simple turn of the knob.

Smart Convection Oven Accessories
The Breville Smart Oven comes with 3 acccessories: a pizza pan, baking pan, and broil rack.

For example, broiling requires high heat from above in order to melt and brown, so the Smart Oven activates 1500W of high heat from the top elements of the oven. On the other hand, toast needs to be cooked evenly on both sides without drying out the inside, so the Smart Oven uses high radiated heat from above and below (1800W distributed between four elements) to crisp the outside quickly.

Baking utilizes another feature of the Smart Oven that contributes to even heating: convection heating. Convection cooking uses a fan to circulate hot air so all sides of the food cook at the same rate. This is particularly important for baked goods, such as cookies and cakes, which need to be cooked evenly all the way through.

Each of these nine functions is preset with recommended settings, taking the guesswork out of cooking. However, each can be customized according to recipe, volume of food, or personal taste. Customized settings will remain in the memory of the oven until changed or until the oven is unplugged from the wall outlet, streamlining your cooking process.

Designed with the consumer in mind

The Smart Oven is carefully constructed from the most durable materials. It is attractively housed in reinforced stainless steel, a striking addition to any kitchen. The elements themselves are composed of quartz, rather than the metal elements found in other toaster ovens. Quartz responds more quickly to heat change, which results in more even heating throughout the oven. The roomy interior is coated with a non-stick material that can safely withstand high temperatures, making cleanup easier. A crumb/drip tray that is accessible from the front of the oven (rather than the back, like many other toaster ovens) also makes it easier to clean between cooking sessions. In addition, the oven includes a patented magnetic auto-eject rack: small magnets embedded on the sides of the oven door pull the wire rack halfway from the oven when the door is opened, making food easier to remove and preventing burns.

Goldilocks proportions

At 18.5 x16.25 x11.25 inches, the Breville Smart Oven is not too small but not too large. It is larger than most toaster ovens, with space to comfortably fit six slices of toast, a 13-inch pizza, or a whole chicken. However, as a countertop convection oven, it is more space-efficient than a conventional wall oven. A smaller oven means less time to heat up and less time to cook, perfect for preparing a meal in a hurry (or for cooks who like to create in the heat of the moment). This also translates into a cooler kitchen (particularly convenient in the hot summer months) and less energy consumed.

2nd Customer Review : Like a full-size convection range in a little package -- A+++
I am totally in love with this toaster oven! It is a heavy, quality appliance, with numerous handy, smart features. I just got it today, and I will update my review later if needed. I cooked some *perfect* cupcakes in it a little while ago, so I'm going on that experience.

1. The instruction book (with about 30 recipes & ideas) is very easy to understand and follow. We had it up and going in minutes, doing the initial heating for 15 minutes to rid the heating elements of a protective coating. There was some odor (no smoke) with this process, but not that bad, and I just opened a window slightly. After this, there was no smell at all when I cooked.

2. The oven door has magnetized areas that pull the oven rack about half way out when you open the door. It's a great concept, and guess what? -- it works! Makes it so handy to get your food out without reaching in and risking a burn.

3. The interior has .8 cubic feet of space. A 12" x 12" enamel...
3rd Customer Review : Beauty and Function - What more can you ask for?
I love this product - it is a pleasure to use, functions beautifully, and is beautifully designed.

The other reviewers have already said much of what I would have written. The 'Out of Box Experience' is superb. As another reviewer noted, the packaging is quite a bit like Apple's (see photos) - attractive graphics on an inner box protected in an outer, recyclable box. The oven itself, when compared to the Cuisinart TOB-165 that we have been using (or even the stainless steel TOB-195 model), is like comparing an Apple Mac to a Dell: visually more stylish and appealing, better engineered 'guts', and once operated, functionally very well thought out.

A few years ago, our old toaster oven died and we migrated to the Cuisinart which, like this Breville BOV800XL, is a convection oven / toaster / broiler. We liked it so much, that we gifted several more to friends and family. Ah, if only this Breville had ben available then...

The Breville is so vastly...

1st Customer Review : A uniquely useful, if not perfect, oven
Given the tremendous functionality, and especially for the price, I cannot in good conscience give this oven less than 5 full stars. However, that is definitely not to imply that it is perfect. Nothing is, and this is no exception. So, while others here have done a fine job of highlighting the positive aspects (which is in fact why I bought one, too), I will try to provide a more balanced perspective. First, though, a quick re-cap of those highlights. Yes, this oven really does do the job of three: a conventional microwave, a convection unit, and a toaster oven. In fact, that does not do it justice because it does even more than that. You cannot, for example, grill a burger in any of those types, but you can in this. Especially for a small kitchen, this is phenomenally useful. In just a couple of weeks, I've already become reliant on its non-microwave functions for a variety of things, from roast chicken to frozen French fries, both of which come out better than in my...

2nd Customer Review : Great microwave-toaster-griller-small oven!
After reading extensive reviews here and elsewhere, I bit the bullet and ponied up for the expensive little thing, and must agree with the reviewer who said Sharp clearly doesn't know what a great thing they have here, or else they have the worst marketing plan in history. This is a TERRIFIC appliance! It has replaced my old toaster oven and microwave. How much room would that save in YOUR kitchen?

There is more functionality than I normally use, so I'll stick to the things I use it for.

1. First, it does boil water as fast as any other high-powered microwave. The reviewer who wrote otherwise clearly had a defective unit. It's a flawless microwave with flat, easy to clean surfaces, even heating, and a silent turntable. It took me a while to get my head around microwaving with a metal turntable, but it works. I have not had the courage yet to microwave with the 'small, flat' pieces of aluminum foil the manual says you may cover dishes with, but I will try it...
3rd Customer Review : Just About the Perfect Appliance
I can't add much to what the first reviewer said, except to say you should get one right now! I hardly use any other appliances for cooking anymore. I was a little worried that it would turn out to do everything, but nothing well, but it actually does everything well. You can roast, bake, grill, or microwave, and I have no complaints on any account. It makes the best roast chicken ever, in much less time than it would take to do it in your oven, and really excels with baked goods as well. This is just a terrific appliance, and while the price seems a little high, it is a great value for all that it does. All of this, and it takes up about a third less space than the microwave it replaced. There should be a fan club!

1st Customer Review : This could be your only oven.
Wow, after reading the other reviews I had to throw my 2 cents in. It's big all right but that's the only point I have in agreement with the other reviewers.

I've had the R-930CS for almost a year. It really lives up to what Sharp says it does. It bakes, broils and microwaves -- all well! I use it to cook meat and it's done a great job on steaks, fresh sausage and chicken.

It also has a nifty feature called Sensor Cook, which is intelligent microwaving. It works for a number of foods including vegetables, frozen entrees and hot dogs. I use it for hot dogs, actually frozen hot dogs. I had no idea how long to cook a frozen hot dog. Not a problem. Slap a couple on a plate, hit Sensor Cook - Hot Dog and the oven does the rest. They come out perfect.

Would I get this oven if I just needed a microwave? Of course not. ( I'm not even sure what you use a 1.5 cubic foot microwave for.) But if you need a microwave and a regular oven all in a...

2nd Customer Review : Good cooking but a few problems
I have been using this product for 2 years. The cooking results are good and food preparation is speedy. However the turntable motor is of very poor quality (weak plastic gears) so make sure to stay even below the listed food weight limit. I had to replace the motor in my oven (52 bucks if you find the part and do it yourself, otherwise about 140). Also the door and some other parts are not aligned properly. One other review I found on the Net had the same complains about this product quality, in particular the turntable motor was faulty and had to be replaced as well.
3rd Customer Review : Great for cakes!
I was hesitant to purchase this unit after seeing the less than stellar reviews posted here, but I decided to give it a try anyway. So far, it does everything that it is advertised as being able to do. I made a devil's food bundt cake and it came out bakery moist, not dried out as I usually get from my regular electric oven. The control panel is intuitive and it has many useful features. The unit is larger and heavier than I expected, but it does have a fairly impressive interior volume. I like the high and low interior racks which allows you to bake two 9" cakes pans simultaneously. I checked the interior temperature of the oven with a professional grade oven thermometer, and it was within a few degrees of the stated temperature. Overall, this seems like a versatile and useful appliance. I hope that reliability is not an issue. I'll keep my fingers crossed!
