i purchased one of these at a local store but am geting a second one at amazon to send to my sister who is a popcorn freak. This is the perfect shaped bowl for making and eating popcorn out of. I tried with and without oil. with oil you get more flavor and body to the popcorn. without oil the popcorm is very dry. i use less oil than suggested - just 1 tablespoon to a rounded full 1/3 cup of popcorn. it takes 1 min and 45 seconds to cook the popcorn this way. it took 3 minutes and 15 seconds to cook the popcorn without oil. (my microwave is 1500 watts) The bowl cleans up easier if you first wipe it out with a paper towel and then wash it. it does not get gummy from the oil like some other plastic bowls do. be careful taking it out of the MW - it will be very hot. enjoy this neat bowl and you will be eating more popcorn - that is at least healthier.

We have one of these currently in white and it's been AWESOME. My wife made the mistake of leaving the lid on our stove and turning on a burner. Soooo... New one it is... This does an AMAZING job popping popcorn. 3-3.5 minutes on high and you're done. Add oil or don't, it works well either way.

A little trick I learned was to add the salt on top of the uncooked pop corn and then microwave. It does a decent job of salting the popcorn. I still add a little more on top.

1st Customer Review : Great inexpensive popper
The Presto 04820 is a great inexpensive popcorn popper. It is very easy to use--simply pour in 1/2 cup of popcorn and turn it on. A minute or so later, the popcorn gets hot enough to pop and begins to flow (sometimes shoot) out the front of the unit. Have a nice big bowl in front of it! There is a butter cup on top of the unit. The idea is to use the popper's heat to melt the butter. It doesn't quite work out that way, because the butter doesn't have adequate time to melt. Fortunately, the butter cup is microwave (and dishwasher) safe, so you can just pop it in the microwave for a few seconds to finish the melting. Popcorn comes out very well popped, no burned kernels, and very few unpopped kernels (perhaps 5-10 total).

After popping, be sure to pour out the few kernels that might remain in the cooker. If you don't they might burn during the next batch. I found this out the hard way, when I smelled smoke and the unit immediately shut off. As long as you pour out the few...

2nd Customer Review : Just trying to add value... Found the missing link.
There is not too much that can be added to the excellent reviews and remarkable suggestions. However, if you read this through you'll see I have one key suggestion.

This popper is outstanding. It's not as messy as a stir-crazy and probably not as bad for you as microwave popcorn. It can produce great tasting popcorn if you do this:

Use the right corn - I've had great luck with Pop Secret Jumbo Kernel Jar, 30-Ounce Jars (Pack of 6) and Orville Redenbacher's Original Popping Corn Jar 30oz - 6 Unit Pack.

Other reviewers have provided the excellent suggestion of spraying olive oil with a Misto Gourmet Brushed Aluminum Olive Oil Sprayer. That is a very good idea and I have an improvement below. Also, if you use this sprayer for any reason...

I've had one of these for more than 10 years and am ordering a new one because the yellow plastic air guide has just disintegrated from age and heating. The motor and element are still working.

Yes: if you leave it alone it does throw out a few blistering-hot kernels. But if during the first 30 seconds of running you hold it and tilt it back about 30 degrees, it doesn't. As soon as any kernels have popped you can set it down again.

Lowest-calorie popcorn? At the supermarket, buy an aerosol can of cooking oil spray. Face the popcorn bowl, spray in right hand and salt-shaker in left. As the popcorn tumbles out, alternately spritz with cooking oil and sprinkle with salt. The oil spray has basically zero calories (a teaspoon per batch?) but it makes the salt stick to the popcorn!

Fun with your popper, impress the kids. There are always a few kernels that don't pop left in the bottom. And every time, one or 2 will go off a couple seconds AFTER you pull the...

Saw this popper on America's Test Kitchen. It looked promising. Found it available on Amazon & ordered. What a bargain! It is simple to use. Just measure 1/4 to 1/3 cup of popcorn into popper, put in microwave & set on high from 3 to 5 minutes. No mess or fuss! Popcorn can be flavored with any spice or condiment you like. Clean up by wiping with a paper towel. I'm thinking of buying this popper for Christmas presents!

2nd Customer Review : Microwave popper excels
I have been looking for a Microwave popcorn popper that is easy to use, easy to clean up and last but not least makes great popcorn. Well, this one sure fits the bill, you can use it with or without oil. I found the best popcorn is made with coconut oil (about 1 tbsp) plus 1/3 cup popcorn. If you use that combination with a 1000 watt microwave you will set the timer at 2:20. If you pop corn without oil set the timer at 2:05. Now the drawback, if you pop the corn based on the manufacturers instructions of listening until the pops are about 2 seconds apart, some of the kernels will burn. Using my instructions the corn turns out perfect but there will be about 15 to 20 unpopped kernels. You will know you put to much time on the timer when you start to smell burnt popcorn. So far I have used Orville Red..er and Jolly Time. The Orville fills the popper but the Jolly time tastes better (sweeter).

i bought one of these a couple of years ago on amazon and after using it a couple of times decided to send one to every one of my popcorn loving friends. they all loved it! it is the easiest and most healthful way to make and eat popcorn. the person who complained of her husband's blood pressure going up obviously was putting on too much salt. the whole purpose of a hot air popper is to eliminate the need for butter/oil and other unhealthy aspects of traditional popcorn. i put a mix of dry spices on the corn before i pop it. it's wonderful.
you can add all the junk you want to it if you absolutely have to but my advice is to try it my way first. i eat a bowl almost every day. the popper has stayed in perfect working order all this time. the only advice on care that i would give is to lay the lid down on a flat surface when you take it off, otherwise it has a tendency to get a little misshapen. the lid doesn't really fit properly anyway and don't worry about that part...

1st Customer Review : Highly Recommended
I have used this popper many, many times since buying it two months ago. It does an excellent job of making popcorn that is light and fluffy.

But I almost ruined the popper the first time I used it. I set my 1350 watt Panasonic microwave oven to 3 minute, burned the popcorn, leaving scorch marks that I was able to scrub out. I'd advise any user to work their way UP to the proper time for their microwave.

The underside of the bottom of the popping bowl gets hot enough to burn one's fingers. Take it out of the microwave by the edges at the the top and place the popper on a heat-resistant surface.

After having tried all types of poppers, this one is the one our family chooses above them all. It is the easiest, cleanest, most efficient popper we have ever tried. With oil or without, the kernals are light and tasty and all popped! We highly recommend it to those who enjoy pop corn as much and as often as we do.
I must add however, that microwaves differ in temperature and you must experiement with the correct power in order not to burn.
3rd Customer Review : Works great, and doesn't require extras
I bought this after returning the Presto Popper. The Presto popper worked a little better, but requires special pads for each batch. The pads cost $0.25 each.

This one works great and doesn't require anything extra except the popcorn, and anything else you want to add.

Plus it is half the cost. I paid $7.99 at Target.

I've been using this great product for 6 years. The concentrator is meant to be used several times. Use it without oil for longer life and less calories. If your concentrator burns and cracks, turn the power level on your microwave to 90%, and pull it out as soon as the popping stops. The concentrator should last 5-6 batches this way.

I am glad to see that we are able to purchase the concentrators here on Amazon! YAHOO!! This popcorn popper is the BEST around!...and the secret may be in the concetrator insert! I have owned several microwave popcorn poppers and air poppers...and, this is the BEST I have ever had. The kernels are always light and fluffy! MUCH cheaper than buying boxes of microwave popcorn!
